Abortion in the United States 2021

Most Christians are prolife but the details reveal different faultlines when it comes to protection for mothers and their unborn.

This post is about abortion laws, rules, and research in the United States. Disagreements about abortion and prolife issues are fierce. Citizens fight to change laws or overturn orders and laws in the court systems of States and the Federal Government.

On 25 January 2021, the US Supreme Court ruled against some highly restrictive abortion rulings of lower courts. Texas Gov. Greg Abbot had ordered an end to nonessential medical procedures in March 2020.

The SCOTUS decision nullified the lower court rulings supporting the Texas order, which had banned nearly all abortion in the state. See SCOTUS Blog

March 21

There's a battle over the availability of pills that women can use for a self-induced abortion. April 7 is a deadline for the current administration to respond to the in-person dispensing now in effect. Those supporting a change want women to be able to obtain the pills and consultation from online sources. Two medication abortion pills are available. They may be safely used within the first 10-weeks of pregnancy, according to Politico.  See the story in Politico.

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Wednesday signed into law a "fetal heartbeat" abortion bill that bans the procedure after about six weeks of pregnancy and grants citizens the right to sue doctors who perform abortions past that point."  Reuters
